Brooklyn bridge estuary crossing

Project: Van Alen Institute - Competition Entry

Location: New York City, NY

Team: Robert Morris, Amir Hariri, Mara Lookabaugh

Year: 2020

Program: This proposal dedicates separate circulation routes for cyclists and pedestrians and provides a framework for community engagement with native ecology on the Brooklyn Bridge. On this overpass spanning the confluence of the East River, Hudson River, and Atlantic Ocean, a series of pathways and platforms improve circulation and act as observation decks for native plant species and water birds that thrive in this ecological delta. This will maximize the Bridge’s potential by immersing the public in the richness of the natural environment.
